Welcome to John's home office at 333 West India Docks!

I'll be moving in soon. In the meantime, here's a preview . . .

What I'll be moving to this site:
I'm very pleased with my new virtual apartment at

I plan bring lots of information on various nautical archaeology projects in which I have been involved, especially the Yorktown Shipwreck Archaeological Project, the excavation of a British transport vessel, the Betsy, originally an English collier built in 1772 in Whitehaven, Cumbria. I directed the Yorktown Project from 1978 to 1990 and I am currently working on a publication on that project.

I now work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) where I am the Manager of the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary. Check out our Web site (see below).

I plan to post information that will be primarily of interest to maritime historians and nautical archaeologists.
I will be moving my belongings in shortly.

In the meantime why not check out the link below to get your own 20MB of free webspace and a nice spot in Fortune City. There are still some nice waterfront spots?
